“UK Households Receive Double Cold Weather Payments”

Published:

Some households have received Double Cold Weather Payments this week following snowfall in certain areas of the UK. Cold Weather Payments, valued at £25 each, are granted when the average temperature in your location drops to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days. In cases of repeated cold spells, multiple payments may be received.

Eighteen postcode areas have qualified for two payments, totaling £50, after meeting the criteria on December 30 and January 6. Eligibility for Cold Weather Payments is determined by claiming specific benefits or mortgage support. Payments are typically deposited into your bank account automatically within 14 working days, except in cases involving babies or children under five moving in.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) administers Cold Weather Payments, with the scheme scheduled to continue until March 31, 2026. In Scotland, Cold Weather Payments have been replaced by the Winter Heating Payment, worth £59.75.
