A massive pumpkin weighing 1,711 pounds grown by Jeff Warner from Englehart, Ontario, was disqualified from the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest due to a small soft spot. Warner, undeterred by the potential disqualification, still made the nine-hour journey to the event with his oversized vegetable.
Despite efforts to salvage the pumpkin by attempting to remove the soft spot, the damage worsened during the trip. Upon arrival, a judge confirmed that the hole exceeded the permissible size for the competition, resulting in disqualification.
Although Warner’s pumpkin did not win, weighing in at 1,542 pounds, he expressed satisfaction with the effort put into cultivating it. Warner shared his dedication to improving each year and the enjoyment he finds in the process.
Despite missing out on the top prize, Warner’s giant pumpkin continues to attract public interest, with families stopping by to admire and take photos with it. Warner plans to transport the pumpkin to a polar bear habitat, where it will serve as food for the bears.
