“Major Mobile Networks Lag Behind in Customer Satisfaction”

Published:

A recent report by consumer group Which? revealed that the major mobile networks, including EE, Vodafone, Three, and O2, are falling short in overall performance compared to their smaller competitors. Based on a survey of over 5,000 smartphone users nationwide, the study found that lesser-known networks often offer better value and superior customer service.

The survey aimed to assess which providers are meeting customer expectations and which are not. The results indicated that the established “Big Four” networks are trailing behind many smaller rivals in terms of customer satisfaction and service quality.

In the rankings, Talkmobile emerged as the top performer, followed by Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff, and SMARTY. Among the major providers, EE secured the highest ranking in ninth place, while O2 and Three were ranked lower.

The report highlighted pricing as a significant factor, revealing that customers on the Big Four networks typically paid an average of £16 per month for a SIM-only plan, whereas users on smaller networks paid only around £9 per month. Despite the lower prices, many smaller providers leverage the major networks’ infrastructure, ensuring comparable signal strength and service quality without the premium price tag of well-known brands.

The study also emphasized the ease of switching networks, with some customers able to transition in as little as 10 minutes. One Which? member shared their experience of saving around £200 per year by switching from O2 to a more affordable SMARTY plan.

Natalie Hitchins, Head of Home Products and Services at Which?, noted that smaller mobile providers consistently outshine larger firms by offering better customer service and more cost-effective deals. She encouraged customers nearing the end of their contracts to consider switching to providers that offer better value and service quality.

The rankings from Which? showed Talkmobile leading with 83%, followed by Tesco Mobile (81%), Giffgaff (79%), SMARTY (79%), and Voxi (79%), among others. The scores reflected the overall performance and customer satisfaction levels of various mobile network providers.
