A tragic incident unfolded when a young man, Tyquan Richardson, met his demise by jumping from a third-floor window to evade returning to jail. The 22-year-old was facing charges related to marijuana possession and intent to supply. As police officers found a gun they believed was linked to Richardson outside the court office building, they moved to apprehend him.
In a moment of panic upon realizing the impending arrest, Richardson impulsively crashed through a plate glass window on the third floor of the court building, leading to a fatal fall. He succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a local hospital following the incident in October 2015. Authorities noted that Richardson was apprehensive about the potential consequences of the gun charge given his criminal history.
Reportedly, Richardson had prior convictions and was out on bail when he was arrested for suspected possession of a loaded firearm, breaching his bail conditions. The firearm in question, discovered loaded outside the court offices, was associated with Richardson based on paperwork bearing his name. Despite admitting ownership of the gun, Richardson managed to break free from police custody and leaped out of the window, suffering severe injuries upon landing.
Having spent 15 days in custody for the drug charge, Richardson had been recently released before the tragic event. His criminal record included convictions for concealing a weapon in Michigan and a past arrest for aggravated assault and battery in 2013.
Eyewitnesses, like local student Rehmet Khan, described the shocking scene, emphasizing the suddenness and impact of the event. Fulton County Deputy Sheriff Dan Cochran expressed the community’s collective astonishment over the incident at the time.
