The recent Louvre heist continues to circulate on social media, leaving many in awe of the audacious robbery. Perpetrated by French thieves, the daring theft involved the snatching of eight crown jewels valued at around €88 million (£77 million) in a mere seven minutes.
Surprisingly, it has been revealed that the heist was made possible by exploiting a major security loophole at the Louvre. Reports from sources like Libération indicate that the world-renowned museum had shockingly safeguarded its security systems with the easily guessed password ‘LOUVRE’.
In 2014, the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) flagged this weak security measure during a security assessment at the Louvre, urging the implementation of a more robust password system.
Online reactions were swift, with individuals mocking the lax security measures, highlighting the irony of the museum’s simplistic password choice, ‘Louvre’. Suggestions for stronger passwords like ‘LouvreMuseumParis’ were humorously put forward.
In a twist, one of the arrested suspects involved in the heist is reportedly a minor social media influencer with a background in motorbikes and security work at the Pompidou centre.
The main suspect, identified as Abdoulaye N, a 39-year-old, was apprehended at his residence in Aubervilliers, facing charges of organized theft and criminal conspiracy related to the heist that took place on October 19.
Currently, four suspects, including three believed to be part of the gang that executed the theft using a stolen truck and specialized equipment, are in custody in connection with the high-profile robbery at the Louvre.
