Vladimir Putin has been cautioned by a high-ranking German general about the potential for a sudden aggressive move against NATO nations, possibly happening in the near future. Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, in charge of Germany’s joint operations command, emphasized that Russia is capable of launching a small-scale attack on NATO territories promptly, contingent on Western responses.
Sollfrank highlighted the likelihood of a more significant offensive by Russia by 2029, given Moscow’s ongoing military rearmament efforts amid the conflict in Ukraine. While he clarified that he was not informed of any imminent attack plans by Russia, he expressed concerns based on the country’s actions and leadership decisions.
The general underlined that Russia’s military capabilities, including ground forces and combat power, could enable a swift and localized assault on NATO regions at short notice. Despite facing challenges in Ukraine, Russia’s air force remains formidable, and its nuclear and missile capabilities are intact.
Looking ahead, Sollfrank mentioned the possibility of a large-scale assault on the 32-member NATO alliance by Russia by 2029 if its rearmament drive continues. He noted Russia’s plans to increase its troop numbers and highlighted the abundance of main battle tanks that could support a limited attack in the near term.
